Homemade Peanut Butter

Homemade peanut butter, made with only one ingredient - peanuts also known as groundnuts.

Ingredients:

454g Dried raw peanuts

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375˚F.

  2. Spread a good amount of dried raw peanuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and transfer to the oven to roast for 5 to 7 minutes until the scales of the peanuts turn darker and the peanuts turn golden.

  3. After roasting, set the baking sheet aside and let the peanuts cold down for about 15 to 20 minutes until they are warm to the touch.

  4. Start the rubbing the peanuts between your the palms of your dry hands to encourage the scales to fall off the peanuts or transfer the warm peanuts into a large cotton dish cloth, fold the cloth over the peanuts to envelope them and rub the cloth over the peanuts to completely remove the scales off of the peanuts.

  5. Alternatively, transfer the peanuts to a large winnower, rub the peanuts on the winnower and while holding onto the left and right sides of the winnower, toss the front of the vessel rhythmically in a gentle upward motion to toss the peanuts upward for the scales from the peanuts to get carried away by the wind while leaving the roasted peanuts behind. Aim to do this process outdoors to easily clean up the mess.

  6. Scope the descaled peanuts from the scales and transfer them to a clean, dry food processor.

  7. Grind the peanuts on high speed and every now and again push down any coarse bits into the mixture and continue grinding to achieve a creamy or crunchy consistency. This would take about 5 to 15 minutes depending how smooth you want your peanut butter to be.

  8. Store the peanut butter in a clean, dry container and use this peanut to make your favorite recipes such as Groundnut Soup (Domodah), Peanut Butter and Jam Sandwiches, Peanut Butter Cookies and so on.

  9. Make sure the entire process of making this Homemade Peanut Butter is moisture-free to prevent the peanut butter from going rancid or growing mold.
