Sorrel Juice

Sorrel leaves, blossoms and therefore sorrel juice are rich in Vitamin C for efficient absorption of iron and collagen production to maintain the healthy glow and integrity of your skin and body movement thereby supporting the body’s overall immune system.

Ingredients

35g dry sorrel blossoms/ red hibiscus

70ml fresh lime juice

60ml raw honey

a few fresh mint leaves

900ml boiled water

Directions

  1. Prepare some boiled water in the kettle in an oil-free pot.

  2. Place the dried sorrel blossoms in a large mixing bowl and rinse with some water.

  3. Pour the boiled water over the sorrel blossoms and let it steep for 20 minutes.

  4. To get a more concentrated juice let the sorrel blossoms steep until the water comes to room temperature.

  5. Prepare another bowl and line a sieve with a sterile flour sack towel or nut milk bag to remove any sediments it may contain and pour the sorrel and liquid into the lined sieve and squeeze out any excess liquid from the contents.

  6. Flavour the drink with lime juice, fresh mint leaves and honey.

  7. Chill and enjoy as a refreshing drink or have it warm as an herbal tea to complement any meal or simply to quinch your thirst.

Notes:

  • Sorrel is tart in flavour; the longer it steeps in the hot water the more tart the juice becomes.

  • This juice is high in vitamin C and loaded with anti-inflammatory properties that support the body’s immune system.

  • Other names for include Sorrel Juice include Red Hibiscus Juice, Wonjo, Roselle, Sobolo Drink or Zobo Drink.
